カドコーリビングの向田です。
桜の木の下に立つと花びらのひらひら散る様子が綺麗だと思いつつもゆっくり見ている暇も無く、今年も花見
は出来そうにありません。私は、桜に関するものが大好きで、その中でも一番気になっているのが「桜染め」
です。これは花が咲く直前の桜の木の枝や皮で染める草木染めの一種なのですが、いわゆる桜色に染まり
ます。灰色がかってごつごつした桜の樹皮から綺麗なピンクの色が出るなんて想像つきますか？でも実は
内側にその色を隠し持っているんです。でも、ポピュラーな材質ではないので、長年の憧れだったのに染め
たものはおろか条件のいい枝が手に入らず、ずっとあこがれのままでいたのですが、偶然に枝を手に入れる
ことが出来たので自分で染めてみました。ところが、なぜか黄色やオレンジには染まってくれるのにピンクに
なってくれません。何度か挑戦してやっと薄いピンクに染めることが出来たのですが、それ以上は出ません
でした。一度チャンスがあると続くのか、その後桜染めをしている方と話す機会があり、こつを聞いてみたの
ですが、プロの染色家が長年研究し数ヶ月かけて染料をつくっているので素人には無理！と言われてしまい
ましたが、また挑戦したいと思っています。ところで、切った枝を乾燥させようと倉庫に置いておいたら一ヶ月
後に花を咲かせていました。桜は儚いというイメージがありますが、水も無く光もほとんどささない状態で花を
咲かすその執念というか根性？は私達も見習わねばなりませんね。
